Welcome to your Intro to Social Work Course. My name is Professor Monique Holsey-Hyman and I will serve as your instructor for the Fall Semester. Over the next sixteen weeks, you will be responsible for completing discussion forums, reflection papers and two exams.

This course is designed to introduce students to the profession of Social Work as a scholarly academic area and as an exciting, challenging helping profession.  This course includes a focus on values, ethics, and a historical perspective of the Social Work profession.

Social work provides services to individuals, families, groups, communities and organizations. It is a force to bring about planned change to enhance human well-being and to particularly meet the needs of vulnerable and oppressed people. Students will be introduced to such topics as: social work history, theory, practice areas, practice methods, social welfare policy and services with the program’s special focus on social and economic justice. The course will provide students with knowledge of social work values and ethics as a foundation of social work's unique purpose and perspective.

Students are required to log into Moodle at least TWICE PER WEEK to participate in Discussion Forums, Class Exercises and to submit required assignments. Late work will not be accepted.
