Welcome to CIS 101
This course is intended prepare students to work with Microsoft Office in business office or for personal use. Incorporating an accelerated, step-by-step, project-based approach, this course builds student competency in software applications use. The course introduces students to Microsoft’s suite of application software. This course covers Word (the word processing tool), Excel (the spreadsheet tool), Powerpoint (the presentation tool), Access (the database tool), and Outlook (the toll used to create and manage e-mail, schedule information, tasks, notes, and contacts). Microsoft Office is an integrated suite; the components can all be used separately or together to create professional-looking documents and to manage data. The objectives of this course are:
• To go beyond the fundamentals and offer an in-depth presentation to Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Microsoft Office Integration.
• To expose students to practical examples of the computer as a useful tool
• To acquaint students with the proper procedures to create and enhance documents, worksheets, databases, and presentations suitable for coursework, professional purposes, and personal use
• To help students discover the underlying functionality of software so they can become more productive
• To develop an exercise-oriented approach that allows learning by doing
